The recent 7th Americas GHI Conference was held on June 13-15, 2023 at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. One of the event highlights was INFORM Brazil CEO Gabriel Roque’s presentation as a featured panel member on the topic of “Digitisation: The Role of AI in Enabling Ground Handling Operational Excellence.”
In the panel, Gabriel and his colleagues discussed how Artificial Intelligence (AI) can vastly improve ground handling operations. By leveraging smart algorithms, downtime can be reduced significantly, with optimized reallocation of staff from lower to high skill level tasks.
AI-DRIVEN SOFTWARE TAKES INTO ACCOUNT ALL RELEVANT WORKFORCE PLANNING PARAMETERS
Applying AI, flexible optimization software considers key planning parameters including applicable laws, collective bargaining agreements, company contracts and service level agreements, working time models, shift requirements for various operational areas, and employee qualifications. Weighing these criteria, the AI-based solution develops an optimized workforce plan that ultimately enhances workforce allocation and improves overall productivity, facilitates the optimized use of staff on higher level tasks, and enhances the staff experience.
In their presentation, Roque and team members also discussed the definition of Machine Learning and AI and highlighted their differences as well as the importance of making data-driven predictions to improve operational efficiency. Roque added, “I also delved into real-world examples of AI deployments in Ground Support Equipment. We discussed the potential of AI in optimizing ground handling operations, using staff rostering as a reference. Ultimately, I emphasized the importance of collaboration between humans and machines in leveraging AI for operational excellence. I’m happy our panel turned into a lively discussion with a lot of questions and audience participation.”
